So this music video for Vato Gonzalez‘s Badman Riddim (Jump) featuring Foreign Beggars is just awesome. There are poorly costumed monsters, cardboard cities, and cute Asian girls. Yeah, I know, sweet right? Oh and did I mention that this song is catchy as f@*k? Well it is. This hip-hop dance track will have you out of your seat and getting down in no time. Its official release is June 19 and includes 6 remixes along with the original edit via iTunes. I’m ready to party, is the weekend here yet?

So in today’s quest to find some new music I figured it was about time to sort through the insane amount of soundcloud tracks that have recently been sent to us. Boy was I happy to find this gem known by the name Manwomanchild. They self-describe themselves as having a 70′s glam-rock style sound and I’d say that’s pretty spot on, yet hitting a more modern re-creation of it by adding in synths and complex lyrics.
Over the glorious Memorial Day weekend Chiddy Bang dropped their new mixtape: Peanut Butter and Swelly. May 27th to be exact. The mixtape is exactly what you would probably be expecting from Xaphoon and Chiddy filled with ever-flowing rhymes and alternative samples behind em. Some of the artists sampled this time around include: Grizzly Bear, Matt & Kim, Flux Pavilion, The Knocks, and even The Supremes voice an appearance. As usual, the mixtape is free, grab it over at illroots.com.

Just in time for the long weekend we bring you some delicious tracks from the past couple of weeks. The Afrojack remix of The Wombats’ Techno Fan is an absolute banger, while Mike Posner covers quite possibly the best Coldplay song ever written, with awesome results. We also threw in an indie jam by the Young Empires, and a guilty pleasure rap song by Uncle Murda – no, ridiculous hip hop is not dead!
Foster the People dropped their first full length this week, and so far it’s shaped up to be one of the most complete hits of the summer. The band is out of Los Angeles and has a clear surf-electronica leaning – their EP scored the hit Pumped Up Kicks, and shows Foster the People is a versatile and fun group. Here are a couple of tracks that will be in heavy rotation this Memorial Day Weekend!
Last week we went to see noise-pop renegades Sleigh Bells at Webster Hall in the East Village, and man do they slay (sorry, too easy). Although this wasn’t the first time we have seen them, they always manage to put on a killer show.
Oh baby I couldn’t leave you alone all weekend to deal with the Rapture without any hot music. I’m going to need some bangers to cope with the ending of the world, and luckily for all of you I’ve spent the past week collecting some really fresh tracks. See, every once in awhile it’s good to take a step back and stop posting every little track that tickles your fancy – and that’s exactly what I did. At the end of the week, I found myself listening to these following songs over and over again, so that’s when I decided I had to share them. My favorite may be Promises, by Nero, which has super dubstep anthem sound to it, while on the opposite end of the spectrum you cannot tell me that the Eminem verse in Fast Lane is not one of the hottest verses of 2011. I’m also feeling the Wildfire remix with Drake, who decided to put down the popcorn and actually rap for real again. Enjoy your Friday, and remember to party hard during the rapture!
Wow…sublime is all i can say about this song. It is amazing. Period. I have been listening to this track on repeat since it came out in March. I am actually having trouble putting this into words, just listen…Star Slinger strikes again!
Finally heard the entire new ‘debut’ Mona album and I’m hooked. I guess finally isn’t the right word, since it came out only two days ago. After being impressed from hearing a few tracks last year I was pumped for this album. Although this isn’t technically their debut album; they have seemed to re-brand themselves and started a new. Not quite sure on the back-story of that, but it doesn’t matter. Either way I’m a fan, and I think you guys will all enjoy it as well. They have been hanging out with Kings of Leon quite a bit and have picked up some a familiar tone, but still stay true and unique to themselves. Stand outs include the rock-powered energy of “Shooting The Moon” and “Teenager” is a great rock out track as well.

Baby-face Avicii brings home a real banger in terms of house/disco music with his new release, Levels. The song blissfully transfers between trance and house party-pop, and most certainly takes a spot as one of the hotter club songs of the year. Check out 1:00 in, when the real fun gets started. I hear this song and it just makes me smile; I hope it does the same for you.
I don’t know much about this band, but this track popped up on our radar about a week ago and I haven’t had a chance to share it yet. The infectious chorus is decidedly Swedish pop, and the synths and strings make this song an instant summer must have on the BBQ playlist. Check it out.
Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for longest freestyle rap. Hes on hour eight and a half as this post is made. The record is 9 hours and 16 minutes. Go Chiddy!! You can tweet @realchiddy with hashtag #rapworldrecord to send topics for him to freestyle about. Good luck, go Chiddy! Watch live at O Music Awards
Strange Talk is an amalgamation of Phoenix dance-pop and electro feel-good music, and can only be described as “booty-shaking” good. Based out of Melbourne, this Aussie band knows how to write a clean and poppy hit. Their new EP is out now, and I highly suggest you slap this one on with the volume up way loud, preferably on a Friday night.
First of all sorry for the sudden brief hiatus everyone…but we’re back and ready to dish out some new music once again. I was recently introduced to the music of local, New Jersey-based, punk outfit Band of Beards. To be flat out, I know almost nothing about them, except that they are from NJ… But that’s not important. What is important, however, is rocking out to some quality homemade rock music. Check out these guys’ new album, Fuerteventura, which is set to be released April 30. (Site)
