From West Virginia, John Lancaster brings us his version of “experimental alt rock.” He debuted his solo album, Phantom Moon, this summer featuring plenty of ‘cameos’ and a nice amount of variety between the tracks. The album is pretty heavy and I’m not really a metal fan, but this progressive metal album is now a major exception. If your also not a heavy rock person, don’t let that turn you away from this guy. The albums is pretty diverse with some songs sounding almost spooky, like Strange Ghosts or the interlude Your Cautionary Tale to some awesome rock-out ballads like The Impersonator and When Shadows Grow Teeth. They almost make me wish I still had the long hair to do so properly! At three years in the making, this album really paid off and definitely earned itself a nice slot in my rotation for a while. Check it out for yourself…
