One of my first posts when we started eavesdr0p was on AWOLNATION shortly after the EP Back To Earth was released. Yesterday they (and by they I mean Aaron Bruno [formerly of Under the Influence of Giants]…since its a solo project) released their first full length album, featuring not only a sick name, but obviously some sick jams too, dubbed Megalithic Symphony. The album features 3 songs from the EP, “Burn It Down,” “Guilty Filthy Soul,” and “Sail,” not surprised that they didn’t pick “Mf” in that grouping, but damn that song is always in my head. Excluding the first two intro tracks and an ‘intermission track’ of the 15 track album, the rest is filled with the high-energy synth-rock that we’ve come to expect from the young AWOLNATION. At some points, tracks walk the line onto the poppier aspects of the synth-rock genre with some uber catchy hooks (such as in “Wake Up” and “Shoestrings”), but I have nothing to complain about. As I’ve said before AWOLNATION is a must for any power-mix, but a straight run-through of the album is enough to lift spirits and keep you in a positive pumped mood for hours. AWOLNATION’s release of Monolithic Symphony solidifies the band in an upcoming force to be reckoned with in the indie/synth-rock realm. Some notable tracks include “People,” “Kill Your Heroes,” “Jump On My Shoulders.” This album is a must to check-out in 2011.
